On Hiatus |
Ted Cohn and Grace Lee, Chairs of the PalmPilot SIG, are taking the SIG on hiatus, starting in
November 2008. This important SIG was started in 2000 by Grace Lee and Patty Perlo (when they both owned Palm IIICs), when they
recognized the rise in use of the Palm Pilot. After many years of leading lively, helpful meetings, both Grace and Patty
felt the need for a vacation, and Ted Cohn took over, reluctantly at first. With growing enthusiasm, he continued to lead
the dynamic SIG, introducing the concept that the Palm could be a persons primary computer...a desktop being just a place
to back it up. Grace returned as Cochair in 2004, and the SIG continued to thrive. Recently it has expanded its reach to
encompass other mobile devices.
The Palm SIG has brought many new members to NYPC and has helped untold numbers of handheld owners to understand and use their
devices. NYPC wants to thank Grace and Ted for their many years of dynamic leadership. We hope that the SIG will return.
If you want to thank Grace and Ted, or to give your input, please e-mail them at nypcpalmpilot@gmail.com. |

The Perl SIG (a.k.a. Perl Seminar NY) is a monthly workshop for Perl programmers and users.
Since December 2000 they have provided a place for advanced beginner, intermediate and expert
Perl programmers to present either finished production programs or works-in-progress for the
purpose of deepening our understanding of Perl and its relationship with other information technologies. |
| Tech Tips (formerly Computer Passport) |
| Chairs: |
Kathy Petruzzi,
Michael Ostrowe |
| Meetings: |
Meets at NYPC the first Monday of the month. |
| The Tech TIPS SIG covers technical topics, information and tips on
using your computer - from email management, utilities (backup, anti-virus),
configuring your computer as a TIVO, making copies of your Video's/Music, etc.
This SIG is perfect for anyone who is interested in using their computer more efficiently. It is geared more to intermediate computer users - but all
are welcome and questions are always answered to the best of our ability. There is always a Question and Answer session before our
presentation(s) where attendees can ask their technical questions or resolve a computer
problem they have. There are also occasional hands-on workshops, open to NYPC members only. |
